REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Honor the Earth is seeking funding proposals for its Building Resilience in
Indigenous Communities Initiative.

Honor the Earths 2009 spring grant-making cycle will fund work that builds
resilience in Indigenous communities. While not a departure from the types
of work that Honor the Earth has historically funded, Honors resiliency
funding guidelines are unique and do not include the entire scope of
previous granting. Please see the full description of the resiliency work

browser. The proposal deadline is March 17th, 2009 and below is a brief
summary of the resiliency work that will be funded.

Building Resilience in Indigenous Communities Initiative: Overview of Grant
Guidelines Resilience Theory is a discussion about how communities and societies will
adapt to climate change. We understand that we must mitigate climate change and adapt, or we will be in a very difficult place as Indigenous peoples.

Honor the Earths Building Resilience in Indigenous Communities Initiative
will grant to organizations working to increase Indigenous communities
capacity to prevent and adapt to climate change in ways that preserve and
restore Indigenous cultures.

Funding for the Building Resilience in Indigenous Communities Initiative
will focus on two goals:

1. To support and forward the development of culturally-based, Indigenous
solutions to climate change based on re-localizing food and energy
economies;

2. To foster restoration of traditional knowledge as a key adaptation and
mitigation strategy to ensure a safe and healthy future for our children and the next seven generations.
