Open burning permits available online
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Forestry has implemented a new open burning permit online service. The fee is five dollars.
Permits obtained through this system are valid for the calendar year in which they are purchased, but must be activated daily by calling a toll-free number. This system allows 911 dispatch centers to have the latest information on active permits to help protect the community from wildfires and false runs.
After completing the online application process and paying the five dollar fee, individuals can print and save an electronic copy of the permit. Individuals must have the printed permit while conducting a burn.
A burning permit is required unless there is three inches of continuous snow cover at your burn site.
To apply for an online permit, visit http://www.mndnr.gov/permits. Burning permits are also available from local Fire Wardens and DNR Forestry offices.
For more information call the DNR Forestry office nearest you, in Park Rapids call 218-732-3309.
