First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji, June 5
The Bemidji Community Arts Center invites you to their June First Friday Art Walk and Opening reception on June 5th featuring the exhibit NEW WORK by Marlon Davidson, Butch Holden, Jay Jones, Marley Kaul, Don Knudson and Vivienne Morgan.
Join us from 5 to 7pm as we showcase new and recent works from this amazing group of local artists including sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, painting and photography. Don't forget to check out the new inventory at Shop 426 while you are at the Art Center! All proceeds from Shop 426 benefit BCAC programming and the artists of Shop 426. Headwaters School of Music and the Arts invites you to their June First Friday Art Walk featuring “Chasing the Wind” photographer, Brian Grund. “Chasing the Wind” is about taking the time to notice the incredible, wonder‐filled world around us through photography, exploration and discovery. It is about taking the time to show today’s youth what love, respect, perseverance, integrity, patience and humility will mean to them in their lifetime. These are values that the wilderness reinforces daily. Stop by on June 5, from 5 to 7 pm to meet Brian and view his photographs. All photographs will be available for purchase in various sizes, ordering information will be available. All proceeds from the sale of “Chasing the Wind” photographs are utilized to pay for wilderness travel expenses for youth interested in chasing the wind. Neilson Place - The North Country Health Services Art Committee is pleased to host Natalia Himmirska’s exhibit, titled, “Embrace” on display now through the month of August for the pleasure of residents, families, staff and the community at large. A painter for over 30 years, Steve paints with acrylic and for the simple pleasure of expressing his appreciation of nature’s patterns, forms and moods through color, stroke, texture and composition. Steve earned a B.S. in Graphic Design from Bemidji State and a MFA from Goddard College in Vermont. His job experiences include sign painting, photography, designing for print and web, and teaching at BSU. Currently he serves the Bemidji area as a freelance graphic designer. Join us on June 5th as a part of the First Friday Art Walk from 3 to 5pm to meet Jon and learn about the art of Pyrography (pie rography) Also known as wood burning or “pokerwork” because the hot end of a fireplace poker was often used to etch designs on leather or wood before the availability of modern tools. The term Pyrography means "writing with fire”. Jons work will be on display at the Bemidji Public Library, now through June. For “Kimono Seasons”, Emily has painted Waldorf College friends, who are from Japan, in their native kimono. The seasons and elements of Japanese art are incorporated into each painting allowing her to explore other cultures while painting people. Mary Knox Johnson does hand loomed rugs and origami and is the author of the children's book "Thoughts from Pudge". Marion Caroline works in watercolor, oils, and acrylics and did the illustrations for “Thoughts from Pudge”. In addition the Showcase and Featured Artists, Gallery North will now host an author to do book readings at 3 and 4pm during the First Friday Open House. This Month Mary Knox Johnson will read excerpts from the new book she is working on and Marion Caroline will be demonstrating watercolor painting as well as displaying some of the illustrations for the new book.
