Region 2 Arts Council Awards $14,000 to Arts Project Grant Recipients
The Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) recently awarded $14,000 through Arts Project Grants, designed for organizations and schools to create or produce an arts project or event such as an arts workshop, a play, an exhibit, a performance, a
collaborative work, etc. Grants of up to $1,500 are awarded for expenses associated with projects or opportunities that contribute significantly to the community. The recipients are listed below with information about their projects.
The Bemidji Sculpture Walk will use a grant of $925 to assist in the production of a 2009 brochure for the sculpture walk.
The City of Mahnomen was awarded $1,500 to assist in funding up to 20 local artists to paint fire hydrants throughout their city.
The Headwaters School of Music in Bemidji will use awarded funds of $1,500 to provide music and arts performances at Lake Bemidji State Park this summer.
The Community Education Department of Park Rapids School District 309 in Park Rapids received $1,500 to present a Summer Arts Safari that will include children ages seven and older as cast members in the performance of a play.
The Bemidji Community Art Center in Bemidji received $1,495 for their use in hosting the It’s Only Clay National Juried Ceramics Competition and Exhibition.
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council in Park Rapids received a grant of $1,080 to assist them in funding Art Leap 2009, a driving tour of artists’ studios and workshops in the Park Rapids area.
The Department of Visual Arts at Bemidji State University was awarded $1,500 to present an exhibition and lecture by Bulgarian artist, Angel Mihaylov.
The Northern Light Opera Company in Park Rapids received $1,500 to assist them in funding the 2009 performance of Fiddler on the Roof.
The Headwaters School of Music in Bemidji was awarded $1,500 for Bluegrass Workshops and Concerts in Clearbrook.
The Community Education Department of Bagley Independent School District #162 in Bagley was awarded $1,500 to present multi-instrumentalist Todd Green’s public performance of original music inspired by many different cultures. Green will also conduct two educational lyceums at Bagley Elementary, Junior and High Schools for the
students and the general public.
The next deadline for R2AC Arts Project Grants is September 15, 2009.
Other available grants include: Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants, deadline October 1, 2009; Individual Artist Grants, deadline October 7, 2009; and the McKnight Grants (open only to 501(c)3 arts organizations), deadline January 13, 2010.
