Investigation Links Grubich to Dead Body

On Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11:30 AM, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was called to 17408 Centerline Rd NW, a rural residence north of Pinewood, MN (Buzzle Township), to investigate a dead body that was located on the premises. The body of Colin Thomas Kirkpatrick, 48, of Pinewood, Minnesota, was found at the scene. A crime scene investigation was conducted by Beltrami County Investigators and members of the BCA Crime Scene Team.

Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner indicate Mr. Kirkpatrick is a homicide victim and died as the result of a stab wound. During the initial investigation, responding deputies located and arrested Randy Joseph Grubich, 44. Sheriff’s Investigators and BCA Agents continued follow-up investigations which lead to securing additional evidence linking Grubich to the death.

The results of the ongoing investigation have been referred to the Beltrami County Attorney for review. Grubich is currently being held in the Beltrami County Jail on charges of Terroristic Threats.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by Special Agents from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
