First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji: August 7

The BCAC invites you to their August First Friday Art Walk and Opening reception on August 7th from 5 to 7pm with an artist talk at 6pm. Join us for “REVEAL” an exhibit of photography by John Bauer and audio by Heidi Holton, featuring portraits and audio recordings of Itasca County individuals including an artist talk at 6pm.

Don’t forget to check out the new inventory at Shop 426 while you are at the Art Center! All proceeds from Shop 426 benefit BCAC programming and the artists of Shop 426. Cabin Coffeehouse and Café - The Cabin Coffeehouse and Café invites you to their First Friday Art Walk Reception on August 7th from 5 to 7pm featuring photographer, Brooke Knisley's exhibit, Reflections in the Landscape. After a two year hiatus from her work to finish school, this exhibit celebrates some of Brooke's favorite work, as well as a reinvestment in her art. Brooke is a nature photographer, most of her work consisting of landscapes and macro work with flowers, and recently dabbling in portraits involving humans' coexistence with nature. Wanting to draw people's attention to the details in nature which we often overlook Brooke says, "it is the texture of things that really inspire me and make me pause to enjoy them." Brooke works in the conservation field and in her free time enjoys hiking, canoeing, camping, reading and spending time with her family outdoors. Gallery North is proud to welcome nationally known Artist, Linda Walker as their August Showcase Artist. Linda is best known for her oil paintings of wildlife and landscapes. Gallery North’s Featured Artists for the month of August, are well known area oil painter Erma Stelter, and Grace Garland who works in acrylics and watercolor. Linda, Erma and Grace will be on hand to meet the public at the Open House on Friday, August 7th from 2 to 5 pm. at 502 3rd Street NW. AUTHOR OF THE MONTH: Gallery North will also feature author and former Bemidji resident Bill Kruger as the author of the month for August. His book of tales for children titled "Mr. Euchre and other Northwood's Fables" is a collection of stories about woodland animals. His granddaughter, Serri (Miller) Robbins illustrated the book. Kari Miller, will be at the August first Friday open house to present a reading from the book and visit with the public.

New Class Offerings at Gallery North:

AUGUST - On Thursday Aug. 13th 1pm. Grace Garland and Marion Caroline Reil will teach a beginning/intermediate watercolor class titled 'Northwood's Birches'. Students will learn a looser style watercolor technique for landscape painting. All materials are provided. Class fee is $40 pre-registered or $45 the day of class.

Bemidji Public Library Art Wall is pleased to announce that their featured artists for the Art Wall at the Bemidji Public Library in August will be students that participated in the art workshops at the Library. The theme for the summer reading program has been "Be Creative @ Your Library" for the Kindergarten through 6th grade and "Express Yourself @ the Library" for the older children and teens. Wild Hare Bistro and Coffee House presents “Body Ornaments”, works by Karen Bradley, August 7th through the 31st. Karen uses seeds, shells, found objects, old jewelry reassembled, sequins, leather, and handmade beads that are carved, painted, dyed, and often crocheted or knitted together to make truly unique and wearable pieces. Karen says “’Reduce, reuse, recycle’ are terms we've all become familiar with lately. I'd like to add the words ‘re-see’ and ‘rethink’. As a musician, I find it instinctive to ‘rehear’ and rehearse sounds in order to create something that inspires. As a craftsperson, I try to ‘re-see’ objects to create something new, whether it be in technique or mood. When we can see objects, even everyday objects, in new ways, we can begin to rethink our world, and reinvent how we use things to create objects that bring us delight or whimsy.” Karen is a longtime music teacher and singer of opera, oratorio and musical comedy, and takes a special interest in making connections between the arts and general studies in school settings.
